Vinyl for 3rd brake light lense?
« on: January 23, 2012, 02:24:02 PM »
I'm trying to figure out what vinyl is best for the 3rd brake light application. I bought some intermediate calendered vinyl from uscutter and it just don't do right. It doesn't contour, and once it's stuck on it's not easy to get back off without messing the vinyl up. I was hoping to get some pointers on what may be best for this. Thanks in advance.

If it's the semi transparent vinyl you're looking for you won't find a flexable one.

No I'm not looking for semi-transparent, just a solid color like black. Not sure what to get without the worry of wasting money.

You need a cast vinyl. Oracal 751 series is one of em. If you want repositionable go with 951 with rapidair.

If you can't find a piece of the material Ben suggested you can always call 3M and request a few free 8.5 X 11 samples (up to 10 sheets) of the 1080 (http://goo.gl/PbHDc) in the color you're looking for.

Thanks for the information. I'm sure I'll be asking more questions in the coming days and weeks. I'll make sure I can't find them thru search first and than post them. I think I'm going to buy some of the Oracal 751 vinyl from uscutters and see what I can make of it. I called 3M up to get free samples but they wanted way tmi for my taste so I told them never mind I'll just have to buy some. I'm sure it's exactly what i'm looking for. Thanks for the help again I really appreciate it.
