I received my samples yesterday.  They sent me the same thing, a pretty good chunk of chrome and several smaller pieces.  They really do look great in person.  The very first thing that caught my attention was that they smell a lot like paint instead of vinyl adhesive... just found that a little different.

Now I just wish that I had someone with the skills like Ben around here to show me the "proper" way to wrap so I can see what kind of potential this stuff has.

Yer gonna wanna stretch the shit outa a sample to see just how much you can push the material before the paint fails, 3M 1080 series should stretch to 200% (double) its original size without major discoloration, so i would be interested to hear if the paint does the same or if it cracks and crazes. I sent your link to the 3M Canada big cheese and he hadn't heard about it, and questioned why they didnt just paint it on IJ180CV3 as it has the same stretch/controltac/comply as 1080, maybe they are using matte vinyl for more tooth for the paint to adhere too.

Let me know what it is you are intending to do with it i.e. wrap full cars or just small stuff and I'll try and give ya some pointers or do up a quick video for ya.

Thanks Ben!  I will test it out for sure.  I think I will try it with one of the colored pieces instead of the chrome as they have a metal flake appearance to them and seem to me more likely to fail than the chrome.  I'll take pictures when I do it so you can see what it does as you would know a hell of a lot more about what you are looking at than I would.  What would you use as a wrap surface that would push it to its limits?

I wouldn't have a clue about wrapping a full car.... if I was going to go that route I think the best bet would be taking one of the classes that you have talked about if I ever go that big.  So for now I think it would just be small stuff.  (Maybe the back of a phone, gas tank door, mirror housings, etc...)

Your willingness to share knowledge is priceless!!!

Try it on the side view mirror of yer car, its round but stable and will require at least 150 to 200 % stretch to start to conform, I dont know what size the samples are they sent you but mirrors are fairly small (Unless its a freightliner LOL!)   Here's a video of some guy named Justin something or other doing a partial wrap on a mirror with a new chrome avery wrap vinyl to give ya some idea on the way he does it, enjoy the porno music too LOL!
