Hand Cut Scion Wrap
« on: July 20, 2011, 03:10:36 PM »
Here's a link to my facebook gallery of the latest wrap we've done, its a SCION for a local dealership and its COMPLETELY hand cut on the vehicle (lettering excluded obviously). Sales Manager picked the style and colors, came out pretty damn cool.

Any questions feel free to ask, it was done in 3M 1080 series matte black and matte silver.

Yep hand cut on the car, not for the faint of heart but thats how its done. On the front bumper where the black and silver meet there is an overlap that has to be hand cut & the trick is to only cut the top layer and not the bottom layer or you will blow out the seam when the sun hits it and shrinks.

Good practice is take a piece of vinyl and stick it to your patio door and then stick another piece of vinyl on top of it and practice cutting strips off the top layer without scoring the bottom layer. Or the good old vinyl on a balloon trick.

I like that one! How does the silver matte react when you stretch it? Does it get glossy as fast as the black matte?

Alex its 3M 1080 Matte Silver, it did not discolor at all during install but we were very gentle with it we did not use torches. 3M material is rated to 150% stretch without discoloration which is what we stay within, however in deep sections you will need to use adhesive primer.
