On the other hand I have purchased things from a bunch of members here and They are Fantastic, and I would love to let other members know that too!

Speaking of which, I am going to see if my Father-in-law is interested in your card holders. Might be able to bring you an order or two.

hmmm.. let's see.. whom have I done business with here that I would recommend?
  • DakotaGrafx
  • Pirate Dave
  • kenya
  • crshirts
  • JoeCamaro
  • mark-s
  • Monkeymeme
  • Tracestar
  • fivestar
  • kyjeeper
  • NVusDezign
  • midwaste
  • cutme
  • firemalt
  • kenimes
  • cleancutblade

Some of these people have less than the 25 minimum posts required for even a graphic request - or contest entry, but it doesn't mean they're better or worse than the ones on top (I looked at the member list, and filtered the search result for number of posts on top - on purpose)

ALSO - I missed a few because I skipped thru..and because of that - I deleted some of them just to not play favourites...

I'll throw in.. I haven't done any work with Thors Foundry, but based on interaction and what I have seen from his work and advice, I would feel pretty confident in working with him if I needed a service he offered that I dont. People here build what I feel are pretty close working relationships. If people post regularly and actually hang around the forum, they will eventually work with each other.

However.. regarding yesterday, I saw someone bump a marketing piece to show he did a service. I wouldn't use him over someone like Dakota who can do more services than I can offer, yet offers the same as this guy even if Dakota charged a little more. Why.. because I see how much Dakota invests into this community. I don't know that from someone else who posts less. So essentially, if you don't invest in the community, you wont be as known, or have the relationship. So it sort of takes care of itself.. and if you don't post a lot, you wont be known to people. So if you were here in the past and quit posting, natural attrition states.. you wont be known to the newer people, and forgotten by some who may have been around a few who never really connected with you.

Regardless.. I would hope someone doesn't depend on getting their sole source of business from forums. The forums I feel are designed to support each other as we get business outside of the forum arena. (At least this forum). It's not my primary, or at this point, any source of business. If I can help someone better their services or deal with a legal issue based on my work experience and degree's, I will gladly. I appreciate those who freely give advice and resources to help one another here. I would think the reputation sort of takes care of itself. It's pretty easy to tell who knows what they are talking about.

BTW Thor.. you are inspiring me to play with etching.. as a personal hobby.. it looks fun!

Just because someone post a lot doesn't make them trustworth - most of the people on thors list work much harder than I do - till I retire in 18 months  ;)  Long term interactions will let you know who is doing a great job and knows their stuff.

I think the key term is longterm and interactions... That beats out any rating system.

I defiantly vote yes for this. After being around these forums awhile I have done 2 or 3 dealings with people that turned out great

mr300s
petes994
kenya

are very top notch people

but one other transaction from a member with a decent presence and decent post count stiffed me on a 50.00 dealing with a feedback system it would help people know if someone is less likely to be dishonest.

I myself do not care about the money that much as if he could not afford it i would of worked out some type of trade of work or something of that nature but if i would have been ordering something from this person for a client i would be left out in the rain and look bad which i do not like doing. Hopefully this unamed person was just having a bad week (highly doubt sent multiple emails, skype, and member has been on forums many times since he said payment would be sent and hasnt said a word to me since) if this is the case i apologize

but back to the point a trader rating would be nice

How about a little different angle, what if we had a straight transaction kudo's thread. The point would be to post only feedback from transactions.

IE.. Petes just did a sign for me. I would post the results of the work, timeliness, and any other comments. It would be a straight up if you deal with someone on this forum, your feedback would be expected to be there. So if you don't want bad feedback, you don't post.

The only issue with feedback is arbitration issues if someone doesn't agree with the feedback. Not sure how to go about that. Would have to have heavy moderation.

Nevermind.. back to the point system.

well you are always going to have the occasional person that doesnt realize we can not control shipping once it leaves our door and the people that think mistakes do not happen but for the most part if someone has 400 good and 1 or 2 bad you they are doing good

As a relative newbie to the forum and to vinyl but along time admin on lots of forums (fora?) I wouldn't go near a rating system with a loooong pole. They cause friction, elitism and can destroy the forum.I have seen a package go missing in the post and the sender called a thief and worse.. the members took sides and the forum split.... the package turned up... the guy said sorry... the forum never recovered.
I have only been a member for a short time but already have a good idea who I would deal with... you only have to read the threads to read "Member A did x for me and they are great " what other rating do you need than a good one... A bad rating could come from a misunderstanding but the damage is already done
From what I have seen this forum was set up to be an independent source of information which it does and has helped me many time already... please let it be a rating system would make it commercial & competitive and not the friendly place to receive help/information

Thank you Dave!!!! The rating system was something I first saw on ebay. And I also saw a lot of vengeful spiteful people misuse the privilege just to keep good people from making a living.
