If the sign is in a place where water can get in to the flutes of the alumiacor then freeze it can cause the sign to ripple and damage, even if you cap the ends water will get in, not something you would think of now in this heat wave but it's the only consideration I can think of between the two, even if you run the flutes vertical the water tends to stay in and freeze
