I use a Ricoh printer and SG inks and have experienced zero problems with the printer OR inks.  I use ONLY SG ink BUT I do keep in mind that some carts may be bad and I'll eventually get a lemon at some point.  That's just business and I deal with it as such.

>>>The following is my personal opinion and is not to defend SG or how they conduct business.<<<

I grow tired of reading the posts slamming SG and their business practices. For now, they have the upper hand, face it and stop griping.  If you don't want to use SG inks, DON'T.  Find a supplier you like and get on with your business. I am sorry for Richard that he is not selling his ink anymore. I've read many posts praising him, the inks and especially his service. Perhaps the situation will change and he can get back to selling soon.  Sometimes the small guy suffers....that's just the way business works. So enjoy wasting ink on your cleaning cycles and tests trying to find something else that works so you can feel like your getting back at SG.  For me, I will continue using SG inks until something better comes along. I'd rather keep on printing and selling products than worry about who's making the ink I'm using.

>>> End of personal opinion.<<<

As far as the printers go...Ricoh or Epson. Both are fine printers and do a great job. Each setup is different, as is user experience, hardware used and software proficiency, so the results will not be the same between us.  One is not necessarily better than the other. Use what you want (and can afford) and what works best for the job you need to do.

Turn out great products, make money and enjoy the business! That's my plan and I hope is yours as well.

End of line.

I don't have any problem wasting ink when it costs roughly 1/12 the cost of SG, nor do I care about "sticking it" to SG.  But you're right, sometimes the small guy suffers, and sometimes the small guy deals with it by going around the big guy.  I don't like getting bent over the barrel, especially when the claims of SG quality ring hollow.  But, the biggest reason I am not using SG inks (other than the fact that they are vastly overpriced) is because I don't want to be left without a spare ink cartridge when I need it, don't want to pay shipping on two ink carts at the last minute and don't want to stock carts that have a relatively short shelf life.  Ink in the bottle is good for much longer and I can refill whenever I need.

In any case, the ink in SG cartridges is exactly identical to the vast majority of the inks on the market, hence their licensing of, at last check, 11 different ink manufacturers, from South Korea, China and the US.

I am basically just dipping my toe in the water right now, and have done it for less than 1/4 the cost of a "startup kit" from Conde.
