substrate thickness

im looking into heat presses. i have one i got for christmas but its old and it has 2 temp settings. hot and OUCH WTF!! so my question is, if you have a clamshell press, what the thickest this you can sublimate on? mousepad, sublislate, etc. i know with a swing away you can do alot of different sizes. i can get my hand on a geo knight or a stahls press for less than 500 n they are both clamshell.

I have done the sublislate in my clamshell. You just have to use a greenpad to make sure you get even heat transfer to all parts of the slate.

You should have plenty for any stuff.   I used a 2x? for a cushion type template for light switches and still had room to go higher shouldn't really be a factor,   even a swing away wont make a difference with height because you still have to swing it to the position and then close it just like a clam shell.  I think the big thing with them is its off to the side and out of your way with no heat until you are ready to press...

The thickness you can press with a clam shell press depends on the actual press.  I have a Stahls maxx press clam shell and the max thickness that I can print is 3/4".

What I did on mine was when I need to do thick stuff, I just take the bottom pad off. It just has a few spots of glue holding it.  Michael
