Ricoh printer
« on: January 15, 2012, 01:57:45 PM »
I bought a Ricoh printer us cutter with the chromablast ink . Befor ordering the printer I asked if they could send me a sample made from that printer with that ink , they were happy to do this for me . I was buying a big bundle package from them and going to be spending 4,000 plus on my first order. The shirt came looked great so I went forward and bought my equipment from them .

Got my printer set up made a design in Corel printed and pressed it just as the directions say. I had also already downloaded the drivers from sawgrass as instructed to do. The final product on my end was horrible there is no way the shirt they sent wa s printed from the same printer, ink and paper. It looked like I had went to Walmart. Bought the transfer paper and printed it on a regular printer them pressed it. After calling them and telling them my end result was not even close to theres,  they reassured me that if I would re download the drivers it would fix the problem . Did what they said an still my end result look like s**t . now I have a printer that is useless because there is no way I can sell something made from this printer. How would one handle getting them to refund the money or send me something else .

Contact their customer support and ask . . . good luck with the return I doubt it will be easy and you will have to pay shipping back if they return it.  if you want to find out what is wrong and how to fix it contact sawgrass for support.  sawgrass is great with support on their inks.  I have looked at the chromoblast setup at the shows and it does look good.  I would also recommend that if you buy anything sublimation or chromoblast related to buy from conde as their support is super on items they sell.   I learned the hard way buying a printer off of ebay - no support or warranty when not bought thru an authorized dealer

I was testing on the shirts that came with it with the chomablast paper, you can only print on one side of that paper so I know that's not the problem. Haven't found anything out yet I'll keep y'all updated.

are you able to post a pic of the sample they sent and what you printed?

post a pic of the end result

If you are sure the printer setup is not the problem,
then that leaves the garment or pressure, time and temp on the  press.

I was more leaning towards. if the sample they sent you was 100% poly but then the shirts they send are 50/50 then your going to notice quite the  difference.

I just looked the shirt they put the image on says outer layer 100% polyester , inner layer is 100% Cotten . I'm going to try tomorrow to press something on the back of the shirt they sent and see if that changes anything . But yes what they sent was 50/50 .

Chromablast is for cotton fabrics. I'm sure it doesn't look too good pressed on a poly shirt.  Turn it inside out
and press on the cotton side or grab an old cotton shirt from the drawer or closet and try that.

One question, did you purposely choose Chromablast over regular dye-sub?

makes me wonder if they printed with sub ink and then sold you chromoblast - but the samples I have seen at shows with chromoblast look good.  they did sell you chromoblast paper didn't they?  the printer was new and never had the original ink in it right?  it should have drank about 1/4 of the ink charging itself the first time

Ok so I called both US Cutter and sawgrass today , Us cutter basically just said well it's the drivers so you need to call sawgrass . I argued with them for a while bout tell telling them not only was the ink not bright but you can feel the image on my shirt where you can't feel it on the one they sent they said well you have to cut around the image to get the excess paper off. Me: I have don't that . Them well you just need to call sawgrass .
Called saw grass went trew and did a few changes on my program and my printer . The images are much brighter now so I'm happy about that. I turned the heat up on my press and the psi and that help also . I still don't feel like what they sent me was printed from the same printer and paper but I am happier now because with the few changes made today I feel like I can make a product from this and sell it . Sill may switch to the sub later down the road. Thanks everyone for all your help . Feel free to five out any other advice you may have for this printer .
