Seams on Glass
« on: October 22, 2011, 02:33:29 PM »
Just an FYI for y'all so you can learn from my mistake. Im wrapping some 9 ft glass bathroom doors for an office building with 3M 1080 Brushed Titanium & I had the bright idea to do a butt seam on the door so that the grain of the material would go left to right instead of up & down. Well you cant seam on a glass door. The vinyl allows light to pass thru it so when the bathroom light is on the door actually glows, but the seam is REALLY visible so I had to rip it all off & gotta redo it Monday. Wasted 400 bucks worth of vinyl so just wanted to give you guys the heads up! LOL!

Seams in general are tricky. I noticed a place where we stop by to pick up lunch installed some perforated vinyl displaying pics of their food, and they made a seam right in the center, and from a distance and with the right light is not visible, but once you get a little closer and there's enough light from the back is horrible.

Glad you're doing the right thing, next job they'll still call you, no doubt about that !
