tell me somethin..  My son does a lot of GA on his gamer computer.. I know some basic terminology.. When they setup a car for a wrap, do they take a 3d image, then flatten it out in UV Mapping?

sort of?

you basically just take profiles of the car, for instance you can take a side side of a car, measure out certain areas and load that photo into your image program and resize it using your dimensions. after it is resized you then have your template for making up the wrap image ( of course keeping in mind curves and what not)

exactly.  but the curves make for larger area, dig?  like the guy doing the containers... an 8 foot span (with ribs) "flattens out" to be probably at least a 9 or 10 foot span, wouldn't you think?  I don't think on cars it would be too critical, but maybe you just add 10% or something??  I dunno..
