Thinking about getting a UScutter
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:07:57 PM »
Second post, woot.

If you haven't read my introduction.

http://www.vinylforum.org/smf/introduce-yourself/ello-from-good-ol%27-missouri/msg71493/#new

I've been looking at getting a plotter for a while now, and from what I've gathered, the SC plotter from UScutter is a good bang for the buck.

We had a plotter at school that looked just like the 34inch SC and seemed to be quite the workhorse.

I noticed UScutters has an ebay page, and saw a package deal that's cheaper than buying everything off their website.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/34-Vinyl-Cutter-Sign-Cutting-Plotter-w-Tools-Supplies-1-000-Total-Value-/280805110772?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item416149f3f4

In their website the 34" SC with stand and laser registration is $370.

FlexiV10 is $60

Which that's already the $430, about the $440 on ebay.
$90 shipping off ebay, don't know what they charge on their site.

Then the extra goodies like greenstar vinyl pack (12 colors 24"x5yrds, $100)

Clipart mini pack ($60)

Application tape roller, application tape, and some squeegees.

I was wondering if this would be a good route for me to get started?

I didn't wanna rush into buying it, that's not my style.  8)

Been saving for one, and my last paycheck was $520, which is the cost of the ebay package with shipping.

Is it a sign for signs?  ;D

I figured on replacing the greenstar with better vinyl. I have a friend who can order from fellers or can get vinyl from a local company.

Be aware, the Ebay auctions by US Cutter usually have a much
shorter warranty period.  There's the price difference.

I got my LaserPoint at an Ebay auction over two years ago
and it has not needed support.

I would look at the GCC expert 24 for a solid cutter at a good price
Graphtec CE5000-60, Corel x6, LXI VE master pro 10,  Hotronix Heat Press, Roland sp-300v

I'd try ebay sales for cutterpros, I got a 24" pcut with stand and media basket for $180 four years ago and I see they still auction them off cheap enough. Though I never used it, I got a full two year warranty with it.

They both come with a 1 year, no difference there.

I would def have to save up more if I wanna buy everything else, and I'd want one larger than 24", so more money there too.

Which I don't mind waiting if it's for a good reason.

Could you maybe show me some vinyl it has cut, maybe words so it's easier to see how small it cuts knowing the font size, just big enough where it's not lifting any corners, and making complete cuts and not skipping corners?

Would be much appreciated.

How are you gonna recommend a product, when you just told me you bought it and never used it?  [img]http://www.websmileys.com lol  I've searched google and seen a forum post about cutterpro vs uscutter, and everyone seems to like uscutter. They both are actually made in the same factory, if that's still the case. Uscutter has added some features, so their not identical inside anymore. Uscutter also has great support going for them. Saw a post about the owner staying after hours to help someone out. I also didn't find one on ebay, and the ones on their website cost more then uscutter.

That price you say you got yours for is close to the uscutter MH models, from what I've read don't seem to be worth it.

Thanks for the replys, I will definitely keep them in mind.

Is there any other plotters I should know about, or anyone else support getting one of the previous plotters mention?

Or any reasons why I shouldn't buy a UScutter SC-series?

I never used the warranty, the plotter has had plenty of use. The $180 price was due to strategic bidding on my part. I started bidding on one that ended on the morning of the last day of a long weekend (Average winning bid ran about $500+), No was around to out bid me. You also have to decide if you're going to limit your offerings to small decals or if you're ready to do larger signs (where the easy quick cash is in my opinion). I've also come to find that not only was 24" large enough to complete all the projects I've done, it's a lot easier to work around in a smaller space and perfect for transport to sites that chose to cut at.

Haha, I see, I thought that sounded funny. I'm glad you didn't take any disrespect, cause none was meant.

Yeah I've done window signs, signs, banners, decals, printed and contour cut decals, shirts with heat transfer, glass etching using both sand* and liquid. I'm ready for larger signs indeed, but why limit to decals or signs? still thought about doing some decals, would be good use for any extra vinyl laying around that's to small for other jobs.

I'm very interested in doing some car graphics as well, and wanted something a little bigger. The 34 seemed small already to me if I was to do a hood or something.

I don't think I'd be able to transport it anyways unless I got a better laptop. I wouldn't be able to edit the file if I ran into a problem or something needed to changed, cause I just import my illustrator files into flexi. I know I can edit it in flexi, but I'm spoiled using illustrator. lol

I'll definitively take all you have to say into consideration, thanks again for the replies.
