If you're planning a hobby instead of a full blown business (at least for the moment) I recommend sticking with your pcut route only because you say you'd like to add printing to your tools. In which case, you can also buy a WF1100 with CISS from HotZone360 for about $150. In my opinion this appears to be the best system to avoid clogs due to less frequent use and rather than offer you the ability to call upon CobraInk to help out with busting a clog, HotZone360 "GUARANTEES NO CLOGGS". Going this route will also allow you to have both printing and cutting and remain closer to budget rather than starting out with an expensive cutter. Should you decide to form a business then you can worry about upgrading to a pricier unit depending upon your chosen specialty and still sell off the pcut pretty easy since the "starter" unit market is always pretty robust. The WF1000 you'll want to keep either way for printing fliers, business cards and other misc printing needs should you decide you want a $7,000 print n cut plotter.
Personally, I started with a pcut as a toy few years back and even though my sign making has gone through an evolution of being a hobby, to full time and then now, to part time. The one constant in the whole thing was my trusty and dependable $180.00, 24" CR630 Creation pcut.
Good luck!
