Very Last Min Order Request
« on: December 19, 2011, 03:07:07 PM »
I did an order of 18 shirts for a cheer-leading team.  It was a "urgent order".  Got them finished and the coach loved them.  Then on Friday night around 8p I get a call from the coach needing another shirt, for the next morning.  I am home based, so I did the shirt for her, was going to charge her the normal rate cause she is involved in many different sports and has potential to become a high volume repeat customer and I am just getting started.   When she pick up the shirt she gave me $25 and asked about a banner for feb.
Is this setting a standard for her to expect I can  have jobs finished next day for her?  I don't want her to start expecting this, but don't want to sound rude when addressing the issue with her on the next order.

Any suggestions?

I try to explain to my customers that I will do my best to
accomodate their emergency orders but sometimes I have
already promised other work. AND, as they know, getting
work done and delivered on time as promised is my priority.

Sounds like your customer knew and appreciated the extra
mile you went for her but I would take the next opportunity
to gently remind her that she was lucky you were home and
didn't have another deadline you were working on at the time.
I also point out that emergency orders do not allow any
wiggle room for equipment problems...which do occur sometimes.

I have a similar problem now with a new broker who called and
asked if I would be interested in quoting on some of their jobs.
So far I have received 3 quote request e-mails....all of then
starting with "rush order, please respond immediately."
Now, I wouldn't mind some extra business but I don't need more
"gotta have it now" orders....especially if I may have to delay my
own customer jobs to rush a brokered job.
I guess I will have to have a talk with this broker and
set up some ground rules.

I guess I need to add some general turn around times to my written quotes.  I just do not want to set a standard of rush orders, for both myself and my customers.
