First big print job - checking my prices?
« on: December 01, 2011, 02:45:48 PM »
So my SC-540 arrives in a few days and I already have a job lined up. However, I've never printed anything large before. All the other jobs I've done have been cut vinyl jobs.

I've hit a few pricing calculators online. I'm playing with the GraphixCALC pro demo.

For a 53" by 112" printed sign to be applied to a truck, I'm seeing $387 from one website. The "Inkjet Digital" calculator in GraphixCalc is saying $302.

The quick price in it for Digital Print, Calendared, is $329 ($8/sf).

Obviously, installation is on top of that.

Do those prices look reasonable?

I need to keep playing with GCPro to see how the numbers all add up, and make sure the pricing is in line with reality, but I dont want to be completely off base when I present a quote.

So I bit the bullet and sent a quote. Lets hope I'm not way too high, or screwing myself by being way low.

Vinyl cost ONLY, not including install:

Left side, 53" by 118", printed, laminated, cut, weeded, using Orajet 3651RA: $344.64
Right side, 53" by 158", same deal: $437.18

So, how far off the mark am I? I either just got the job because I'm way low, or he thinks I'm nuts because I'm way high.

I've learned the pricing in this area for cut vinyl. Printed and laminated? Ugh. New beast to me!

Just vinyl? no artwork right? i would be a bit higher than your 2 prices, but not too much on the 118" one. the 158" one is quite a bit low. but, i try and keep my pricing middle of the road for my area. keeps away the bottom feeders and tire kickers. i just don't have time for jobs that don't pay. the other thing to think about is this, what i can get in my area will almost never reflect what you can get in your area. the best way to find out where you are at on pricing is to call your local competitors as a customer and get pricing from them. kind of a dirty thing to do, but works like a champ
not enough time on my hands...

Why would you charge more per sq ft on the 158" one? I think I typoed that as the 118 is 2.91 per linear inch, and the 158" one is 2.76. But even still it goes from 437 to 460. Why would your price per sq ft go UP as it got larger?

OP has read this. Pricing has been deleted. Don't like throwing it out there on an open forum. good job on getting the project.

Yeah. I dont have the original quote in front of me but it had to be a typo. I used Graphixcalc pro to price it, and both items used the same template, only thing changed was the sq ft. So the price would be consistent.

Either way, I heard back from the customer today and they are happy with the quote. In it had a few hours install labor added, and there will be graphics charges as well as the eps he provided needs tweaking.

Anyone know where to get a physical pantone fandeck on the cheap? Those things are expensive!

Your not going to be able to reproduce Pantone colors with a cmyk printer. Different color range all together.

I would print out a chart with the profile you are using as a color guide.
