« on: January 03, 2012, 12:33:17 PM »
I wanted to share that we finally came up with a name and designed a sign, please let me know what you think, any changes or Ideas is appreciated.

The name Thirty 5 is the road we are on.

Thanks,

You asked, so I am gonna be brutal......First off, learn where to use apostrophes...and where NOT TO.

Second, are you selling fish?  First impressions count a LOT and at first glance I would think you were a Christian store of some sort, not a sign place.

Third....the 35 is so hidden in that sign that if you asked ten people what the name of your business was none would say 35 signs.

Try it again, make a few diferent ones, and put them back up here for some more feedback.

Sorry to be so rough but dang........that was not something I'd put up for anyone. Sorry.....
How do I know I am going out of town??Ten people call me for signs by the morning.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate the criticism. I did ask for it! So with that being said what ideas would you have to make it better? If you think of a sign for a company called 35 signs what comes to mind?
One thing worked though..... it isn't a Christian store but I did want people to know it was a Christian run business ;D
Thanks in advance for the help!!

I'd somehow work the Route 35 sign into the sign, maybe using a highway sign with the 35 on it and in smaller lettering than the 35, but still large, Signs and Designs...You might have to use a drawing of a route 35 sign, and you may still need to keep the "ROUTE" on the sign even tho it is not in your name, to keep folks from thinking 35 MPH......or that you do 35 signs, no more , no less... ;D

You could lay it out with the drawing of the 35 sign on top, centered, with signs and designs under it, OR....the route sign on the left, with SIGNS and DESIGNS on the right, maybe even SIGNS over DESIGNS with the "and" in smaller and tilted letters...Play with it and see what looks good.

As far as being a Christian owned business, a small fish down in the corner or center bottom will do. The history of the fish was a secret code between beleivers that was inconspicuous.(sp?)and it was something easily hidden...

Good luck....sounds like ya have the right attitude about it, that helps a bunch!

Not to be a dick or anything but the fish is acutally a PAGAN symbol that denotes we are currently in the age (or AEON) of Pisces.  Personally I think if you like the sign brother then by all means use it.

The Ichthys has been used for centuries as a christian symbol.

One thing worked though..... it isn't a Christian store but I did want people to know it was a Christian run business ;D

This isn't meant negatively, it is just my own personal reaction and my own opinions.

Be aware that you may turn off some of your customers. Not everybody is Christian, and some "Christians" aren't very christian. It is always a tough call in business in regards to religion and politics. Should one proudly declare their alliances and risk turning away some business, or should they separate their beliefs from the business arena.

My own personal reaction to seeing a fish symbol on a business ad is suspicion. I wonder if the person expects me to trust them because of their beliefs instead of because of their business practices.

And to show that it's 6 of one half dozen of the other. I go into a Christian owned store before another thinking, 'If this person has the guts not to care what everybody thinks of their beliefs, I owe him/her a shot at my business'. Yet all the while holding them to a higher standard (not necessarily price) in order to actually earn my business.

My own experience with the folks who advertise as Christian Owned businesses has also been less than stellar.. It seems as if those who choose to place that in their advertising often also expect the public to put up with less than optimal value for their money as after all the money is going to a good cause. There are also yellow page directories that are made for Christian businesses to advertise in, and they are full of substandard businesses. Why this is I can't figure out, but more often than not, that little fish means.....watch out! As a beleiver myself this misuse of Christianity does pain me. Personally I know I am not perfect, and I am not going to put a cross or fish wherever incase I do a boo boo.

And then there are those businesses that do not choose to advertise religious affiliation, yet they follow true Christian principles in their day to day operations.....Word of mouth and good  customer service bring them all the business they want.

Rant over, back on topic...

So, have you made another sign yet ?? Or did I scare ya away with my extremely tactful and diplomatic reply?  ;D ;)

just my 2 cents.. when I think of 35.. I think speed limit on normal streets in normal towns..  ;D

But yeah.. the 35 sign designating route, rd, whatever is good
didn't read all the theocracy about the fish.. skipped and skimmed as it's not useful to me to make this post,

Roadsigns command attention.  A huge speed limit sign - even if it is on Route 35 - commands attention.  Might be laws against posting a diff speed limit, unless it IS 35 mph there...just sayin.
Just my 2 cents..
